When it comes to musical acts today, Rihanna had struggled to find her footing as a serious act. That came well to fans with her hit Umbrella, but all she had really done were dance songs, and not branched out to a broader audience. That has shown well with ballads nicely, with Hate That I Love You, the third single from A Good Girl Gone Bad. her collaboration with soulful singer Ne-yo is one of the more soulful duets I’ve heard this past year, and shows a nice melodic tone the two share on the song. It shows she is finally trying to head in the right direction, and I hope it tries to work. I also hope she and Ne-yo should try to do another set of duets together.

Boldness, confidence, “on-your-face” attitudes, and go-getter styles are definitely a great style Rihanna embraces on her album titled, “Good Girl Gone Bad”. This single will give you a glimpse of what the “new” re-invented Rihanna is all about. There’s fierce passion, club vibrations, emotional moments, and fabulous singing with featured artist Ne-Yo.
The first track, “Hate That I Love You”[3:39] is a slow to mid-tempo ballad with references to how hard it is to admit that love can grab a hold of you unexpectedly [love spell]. The music portrays nicely how love can be like a force that takes over and doesn’t let one control it. Rihanna’s voice sounds fresh, clear, and very nice with Ne-Yo’s. It’s a back and forth singing sure to get any listener wanting to hear more!
The K-Klassic Remix of “Hate That I Love you” [7:41] has a nice club ambiance of trance, techno flairs, elevating pulsating echoes, drums, and fast tempos. It has repetitive echoing of “So much I love you, so much I need you x more” For party junkies, club-hoppers, and fans this will get your energy running on high, your moods uplifted, and your mind off the real world! Again, the meaning behind the song is reinforced but with added instrumentations, effects, and pauses that swirl, twirl, and hypnotize the average R&B dance junkie!
While the Double Disc of “Good Girl Gone Bad” has this single and remix don’t let this selection slip by. Rihanna’s warming up to a much fiery grown-up style sure to take critics and fans by storm with aw, shock, and desire for more! This will definitely be a big collector’s item down the line. The single comes housed in a slim-line jewel case with an elegant, seductive, “in the club mood” Rihanna on the front cover! The artwork on the disc is like no other of her releases with the same front photo of cover on the actual disc; very artistic and glamorous for sure! The listening experience is unlike the bonus disc as this one focuses on the themes of love being an uncontrollable force along music, singing, and vibes that are truly astonishing, and striking!
