The Aquadoodle isn’t a pool or tub toy, but without water it’s no fun at all. It’s just a drawing mat after all, but kids will like the novelty of its disappearing colors. The 81 by 53-inch drawing mat is large enough for several kids to doodle on at a time, using the included magic marker pens that do not transfer color to other surfaces (to our knowledge …). Color from the pens appears when water touches the mat; it then fades out without a trace in 60 seconds or so. That’s it: no ink, no paint, and no mess. –Diane Beall

Product Description
Just add water, doodle with the “magic” pen and see color magically appear with no mess. Designs dry and disappear in less than a minute. Several kids can play at once. Use over and over again. Includes magic pen, storage pouch and mat. Adult supervision recommended. Measures 32″L x 32″W.

…let’s make a cool toy, but not include accessories! Oh yeah, it’s already being done…
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 15-month-old and 3-year-old. After reading reviews here, I unwrapped it tonight to check it out myself. =o)
I was hoping that the mat had flexible plastic edging that would make it “pop” open flat (like a windshield screen). It doesn’t. But someone should consider adding that feature in the next version. It is annoying to draw over wrinkles.
The (wrinkled) mat is almost 3 feet square, and made of thick plastic. The white drawing surface is like rough fabric over blue plastic - a simple concept where water makes the “fabric” see-through. The precious Magic Pen is a cheap plastic tube with a felt nub. You simply fill the tube with water. I used a Q-tip dipped in water and it was fine. Also, sponge shapes dipped in water will work well. You could walk on it with wet feet, or make wet hand-prints, too.
I appreciate the outline-fonted ABC’s and numbers 1-10 around the edges. It was compelling to “fill them in.” The pictures around the edges might help give artists ideas of what to draw.
The areas where I was light with my wet Q-tip dried in about a minute. The heavier areas, naturally, are taking a lot longer to dry. I imagine this time would vary based on room humidity, use of a ceiling fan, etc. I don’t think this will be an issue for us. When the mat is filled in, it’s probably time to move on to a new activity anyway. The beautiful thing remains: no clean-up! I’m not sure where I’ll store it, but I wouldn’t put it back in a box before it dried. Maybe draped over a hanger in a closet, or folded loosely in a kitchen cabinet - this will be a great kids’ activity for while I’m preparing a meal.
I really like this toy because it encourages fine-motor skills (doodling) and creativity. We’ll also use it to practice writing letters and numbers. I’m curious to see how my 15-month-old likes it - I’m sure our 3-year-old will love it. I had fun doodling on it myself. Now I have to wrap it again and put it back under the tree.
It would be NICE if it had included another cheap Magic Pen. It angers me that they made the mat so pricey, then make you buy accessories separately - if you can even FIND any in stores (I’ve been looking, no luck). I will probably not buy another pen, just use Q-tips, paintbrushes, sponges with it.

I just wanted to say I am a mother of three so I bought this mat for my children to spend some fun quality time together while I get some household chores done. I agreed with the other reviews but then I found a web site where you can buy the extra pens and stamps. Now my kids really enjoy drawing on the mat. […]. The pens and the stamps are (…)for the set. While the cost of the mat was a bit expensive for only having one pen the time that my children now spend together is well worth the extra money for the pens and stamps. I ordered a few of them just in case any of them were lost. I hope this helps other parents with the problem of not being able to find these accessories.

I am a frequent buyer/reviewer for toys online and I am generally quite happy with them. This toy has a great concept, but I really wasn’t thrilled with it. As the other reviewers have stated, it is a great toy…that is, until it’s all wet. I found that the manufacturer SAYS, “image disappears in approx. 20 seconds.”. This is where they are wrong. My kids LOVED playing with it, until they ran out of room to write stuff. It took so long to dry to become clear again, that I had to bring it in and put my hairdryer to it for an additional FIVE minute to dry it in order to continue using it. And this toy wasn’t even drenched, just regular use. The idea of this toy is great, but has a big inconvenience. Maybe when it’s a hot day it’ll be better….I hope! I bought two, one for my daughter and one for my niece. I’m returning the unopened one.
