The Sumer Infant Custom-Fit gate lets you tackle the dilemma of cordoning off unusual openings and areas in your house. Being as much as 12 feet wide or as little as six feet, the Custom-Fit gives you the freedom of blocking staircases or for use in extended openings–think living room. The gate comes with hardware to mount to the walls and a template; all you need is a screwdriver. The locking door swings both directions for easy passage without removing the entire gate– no more hurdling to save time. The fabric is soft and durable, and the panes are pretty much transparent, so the little ones won’t miss any of the action when behind the gate. No bars or metal and wood also reduce the likelihood of injury. –Scott Teal

This is a nicely designed gate, particularly for wide openings (minimum width is 67″–although the box says 70″). Note that for openings up to 89″ you just use the gate panel and one of the side panels. Openings wider than 89″ use all three panels. If you’re using it for a pet, the panels are made of a mesh fabric that looks like a cat could make quick work of it wanted to get to the other side.
You do need some “handyman” skills to install this gate, equivalent to hanging a shelf. I recommend not using the drilling template, and just position the gate on the wall and mark through the screw holes for drilling. You’ll almost certainly need appropriate size screws, since the included screws will only work if you’re screwing into woodwork directly.

if you have a wide opening you want to gate off, this gate will do the trick. It uses a fabric mesh instead of vertical bars, which works well to keep our infant on one side. There’s less for him to grab onto and pull himself up with as well.
It was easy to adjust to the size I needed and easy to install. Just screw a few brackets in place and snap the gate in place. The locking gate swings open both ways. The gate also has a bracket at the bottom that connects to the bar to keep it from being pushed out at the bottom.
Update: This fence is still nice, but 10 months later my (then 18 month old) son figured out how to break out of it. The mesh on the gate wraps around the metal frame and attaches with Velcro. He figured out he could essentially pull the top apart and move the mesh down and get out. Sneaky little guy! Not sure if the newer gates are the same.

This is junk!
My 20 month old grabbed the top corner, pulled & ripped the whole cloth door OFF! Fortunately, I was right there because he headed straight for the stairs! I had to sew the Velcro together with some heavy-duty thread. I would not recommend leaving your child alone with this gate for one second.
I will post some pics latter…
